Student Involvement

DREAM Team-(Design, Represent, Events, Ambassadors and Marketing) This extra-curricular team participates in all events that happen outside Penrose Academy. Students selected to the DREAM Team participate in fashion shows, career fairs, high school presentations and marketing initiatives. They also plan and host Penrose Academy's Beauty Bash, an event for prospective students to see Penrose Academy.

Student Council-Penrose Academy's elected Student Council allows students to represent the student body, share ideas on innovating Penrose Academy and have direct connection to Penrose Academy's leadership staff. They also serve as hosts to Penrose Academy's Around The World Hair and Makeup Event.

Assemblies

Penrose Academy Assemblies have become a staple in the school's culture. Each week the students and staff gather for two hours to celebrate successes, recognize accomplishments and address and explore topics related to personal and professional development. Assemblies also provide the chance to welcome local, national and international guest speakers and VIP's.

ITEC

ITEC is the premier International Awarding Organization and Examination Board for qualifications in Esthetics and Hairdressing. ITEC operates in over 38 countries worldwide and allows ITEC certified Cosmetologists and Estheticians to work in any of these locations. Penrose Academy is the first and only ITEC certified center in Arizona and one of only 10 in the United States.

Fierce Conversations Training

Fierce Conversations training introduces ideas and principles that helps Penrose Academy students and staff have an understanding of conversations and the power they hold in leadership, relationships and results—all essential to individual and collective success. Penrose Academy is the only beauty school in the country to be certified in Fierce Conversations and Jill Kohler, President of Penrose Academy, is a certified Fierce Conversations Facilitator and leads the training at Penrose Academy. Every student and staff member receives the training that leads to impacting their future growth both professionally and personally. Global companies such as Bumble and bumble, Coca-Cola, Costco and Cisco use Fierce training.

Study in The States

In 2011, Penrose Academy launched our Study in The States program. This program gives students the opportunity to have hands-on education along with a cultural experience within the 50 United States. New York City was the inaugural destination for this program which included two Broadways shows along with private meetings and demonstrations with both casts and hair/makeup teams. Attendees also attended a private class at Bumble and bumble University for Penrose Academy students only.

Editorial Opportunities

Penrose Academy students are given the chance to participate in photo shoots and editorial styling. The student stylists/makeup artists have received editorial credit for their work on over 20 covers of azTeen magazine. Other editorial credits and opportunities have included: 944 magazine, First Chair magazine, The Pro Beauty Association Urban Latino Fashion Shoot and printed advertising for Desert Ridge Marketplace and Penrose Academy.

Event Styling

Penrose Academy students have the chance to learn many aspects of the professional beauty industry, including event and fashion styling. Penrose Academy students have styled hair and makeup for events including: Scottsdale Fashion Week, Banana Republic and BCBG guest styling events, Desert Ridge Movie Premiere, and azTeen Model Search. Penrose Academy partnered with Paradise Valley Mall to create PV Rocks Fashion Show and is the lead creative team for Notre Dame Preperatory's Senior Fashion Event.

Giving Back: Phoenix Children's Hospital

Phoenix Children's Hospital is Penrose Academy's charity of choice. To date, Penrose Academy has raised over $35,000 for the hospital. By giving back to the community, Penrose Academy educates the students on giving back in your professional and personal life. Penrose Academy launched its annual Around The World Hair and Makeup Event to raise money for Phoenix Children's Hospital while showcasing the students work. This annual event draws more than 400 attendees and continues to grow each year. Penrose also participates in PCH's Pajama Jam. This event allows patients and their families to celebrate end-of-school activities at the hospital that includes the patients getting their hair, makeup and nails styled. During the holiday season, Penrose Academy's students and staff adopt a family in need who have a child in Phoenix Children's Hospital's NICU. Students and Staff raise money to purchase items the family needs and then welcomes the family at a celebration brunch at the school.
